What is an infrared sauna?
An infrared sauna is an indoor enclosed space with inbuilt infrared panels (lamps) designed to your warm your body while you sit inside and relax.
Induced thermal heat on the body provides relief for sore muscles and many overall benefits for your health and wellbeing.
How does an infrared sauna work?
Infrared saunas use infrared lamps to gently and directly warm body tissue and raise your core temperature, using electromagnetic radiation. They are an alternative option to traditional saunas, which heat the air around you using steam.
An infrared sauna provides heat between 43-57 degrees celsius as opposed to traditional sauna (65-90 degrees celsius). The ‘heat’ experience’ is less intense, therefore a more comfortable and endurable option for some. Some also feel that infrared heat penetrates the body deeper than heated air.
Infrared sauna health benefits
The biggest benefit of using an infrared sauna is increased movement through relief from muscle soreness (muscle recovery) and pain. Regular use may also bring broader long-term benefits, such as:
- Improved metabolism
- Increased movement
- More restful sleep
- Weight loss
- Clearer skin
- Improved circulation
- Reduced blood pressure
- Chronic pain relief
- Decreased stress/anxiety
Those who engage in rigorous exercise or hard physical work find using our infrared sauna soothing and revitalising, with fast muscle recovery. Using it regularly can also assist sufferers of conditions such as arthritis and chronic fatigue.
Scheduled, regular ongoing bookings are available. Contact That Myo You Know to lock yours in!
Private infrared sauna facilities
Our infrared sauna is located in the Recovery Room, a private treatment room within our satelite clinic. When you book the Recovery Room you get full access to use all equipment in the room:
- Infrared sauna (2-person)
- Normatec compression garments (legs, hips and arms available)
- Massage gun
- Foam roller
- Space for stretching
You can book the Recovery Room for your own private session, or bring a friend with you. The room is available for (maximum) two people at a time. Your friend can join you in the sauna or you can take turns while they use the other equipment in the room. If you book the room for yourself it is yours exclusively (you will never be in there with a stranger).
The infrared sauna has inbuilt bluetooth speakers so you can sweat it out to your favourite tunes. The sauna itself is wooden and the lamps give it quite a nice glow!
Using our infrared sauna
You will feel the warmth straight away once the lamps are on and relax instantly. You may also notice your heart rate increase and you will perspire… it’s time to get sweaty!
For maximised benefits, we recommend:
- 30-minute sessions
- Frequency of 3-4 times a week
- Staying hydrated (before, during and after)
You can adjust the temperature of the infrared sauna yourself using the control panel (inside and outside). The sauna takes 5-10 minutes to get to the set temperature.
What should I bring?
Each person needs to bring:
- Two towels (one to sit on in the sauna and one to wipe away sweat)
- Clothing (we recommend swimwear or activewear)
- Hair tie (if you have long hair)
- Water bottle (water also available at Reception)
If you are a bookworm you might like to bring a book – you might appreciate the time for some reading. And don’t worry… infrared penetrates clothing and towels (and books!).
How much does infrared sauna cost?
Get full access to the Recovery Room and the infrared sauna to create your own customised session. If you’re a regular visitor, save money by grabbing a 5 or 10 pack pass!
- Single Session – $30 (bring a friend for $15)
- 5 Pack Pass – $25 each ($125)
- 10 Pack Pass – $20 each ($200)
- Before/After Massage – $20 each
Any of our massage services are a great addition before using the infrared sauna so you can relax in the sauna afterwards and continue to receive the muscular benefits. It’s best to use the sauna after the massage, so that you’re not all sweaty during the massage treatment.

Frequently asked questions
This is my first time using an infrared sauna. What temperature should I use and how long?
If the infrared sauna is new for you, we recommend starting with a shorter session at a lower temperature (e.g. 10 minutes at 43 degrees). Then you can increase the temperature and timing as you feel comfortable. It is recommended that you wait 1-2 hrs after eating before using an infrared sauna.
Is your infrared sauna cleaned after each use?
We maintain a strict cleaning schedule. The infrared sauna is fully cleaned after each use with disinfectant wipes and viraclean spray, paying special attention to all high-contact areas such as the seat, back, feet area and door handles.
Can I break up my recovery session?
If scheduling allows, absolutely! Just let us know your needs and what you have in mind and we can help you design your perfect session.
Here is a combination we recommend:
- 30 minutes recovery boots
- 1 hour massage
- 30 minutes infrared sauna
We are happy to break up the 1 hour Recovery Room session if scheduling allows (so you can use it in 2 x 30-minute bursts).
When shouldn’t I use an infrared sauna?
You should not use an infrared sauna if you are pregnant (or trying to conceive) or feeling unwell.
If you have a significant health condition or you are on prescription medication, you should always consult your medical practitioner prior to using an infrared sauna. Individuals who suffer from cardiovascular issues, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, low or high blood pressure and people with multiple sclerosis are at particular risk.
